First Day of Spring = Decision Time

We chose the first day of spring (March 20, 2009) as a deadline to make a final decision about our world tour by bicycle: To go or not to go?

We decided ... drum roll please ... TO GO!

And we decided that we would start pedalling on our Dream Bicycle Trip in June 2010.

Here is a rough itinerary of what we'll be doing in preparation for our departure:
  • Move out of our apartment. Reduce our belongings to what we'll need for cycling and for one more year in Montreal.
  • Take a summer cycling trip to Newfoundland for 6-7 weeks. Test out new equipment along the way.
  • Move in with friends at the end of the summer. Continue to work and save $$ until we leave.

  2. Sounds like an incredible trip! How's the planning/saving/acquiring gear coming along? I'm in the same boat: moved in with my parent's to save/plan and leaving June 2010.

  3. I agree, the XTR build is excessive. I just ordered the frame and built it up from there. It took sometime b/c I waited to find good deals online for components that I wanted, which turned out to be just about all XT. I would love to pictures of them and hear your thoughts when you take delivery. Btw, I'm really happy with the Tubus racks. I bought them from thetouringstore.com. Wayne is a really great guy to deal with.

    My route:
As of now I leave early or mid-June and go through the US (NC, SC, GA, TN, KY, MO, KA, CO, WY, ID, OR, CA) reaching San Fransisco in October. After that I fly to India. My dad will be there at that time (he's originally from India). Visit with him and relatives for a while, cycle India, then SE Asia and then I have no idea. I've been dreaming of Africa lately but don't need to get ahead of myself. The US and India seem definite and I think I want to stay in countries where my money will last the longest.

Only 6 months (less you you all)!

  5. I don't know anything about the Thorn racks, but everything they make seems to be great. I ordered an accessory stem, for my handlebar bag, from them and it's well made.

I was in India 9 years ago but didn't cycle. Mostly meeting family members and traveling around Gugarat. Yes, the traffic is a bit insane, but that was mostly in cities and on major raodways. I hope to avoid the two as much as possible. :)
